Interactive content is any kind of content that invites participation from the user, engages them, and offers quick and personalized solutions. Interactive content types can range from calculators, quizzes to surveys and chatbots. Today, we’re going to talk about one of our favorites – surveys, and how to create surveys in some easy steps without any coding!
Surveys can belong to any business and any industry – from education to real estate. For example, a university can use a Student Satisfaction Survey to interact with their students better and get to know their grievances in a more efficient way!
Now before we guide you to how you can create a survey, let’s have a little chat about why you should create one!
How Can a Survey Be Useful?
Conversations cannot be one-sided. They don’t end unless the other person responds to you – in this case, your lead/customer.
An online interactive survey can be useful in many ways:
1) Getting Better Feedback
Do you want to know what your customers think of your product/service? How about knowing about their opinions on your customer support? Well, you can do one or both with the power of online surveys. Create your survey with a clear idea of the information you are trying to collect. You will get a better idea of where you are lacking and you will be able to address their pain points!
2) Quick and Efficient
As an online store, you have no option but to give your customers an online feedback survey. But even as a physical front, wouldn’t it be so much easier to send your customers interactive surveys on phones or emails? It would make it more comfortable for your customers, and more quick and efficient for you to collect those responses.
3) Engaging and Retaining your Customers
Using an online survey is a great way of engaging your customers after you’ve made a sale. It makes them feel heard and also ensures them that their experience is your top priority. Getting to know customer grievances also helps you offer customized solutions to them. This does not only improve customer service but also increases your chances of retaining a particular customer.
4) Long Term Benefits
Understanding your customer’s experience with you is a great way to know where you need to optimize. If your customers have a common complaint or a common suggestion on how you can improve your service, a survey is the best way to know this. This will help you improve your brand as a whole, as well as get you more loyal customers.
Types of Surveys You Can Create
As we mentioned above, you can create surveys no matter which business or industry you belong to. Here are some of the types of surveys you can create using Outgrow!
1. Employee Job Satisfaction Survey
Well, what’s a company without its employees, right? And you gotta know whether they’re giving you the best performance they can. But at the same time, you also need to make sure that they’re happy with you as a company.
An employee job satisfaction survey will help you know whether your employees are happy with the way things are going. You can ask them about their work, the company’s amenities, their managers, their compensation, etc. to get a better idea of how they’re feeling. Such a survey fits well in all types of organizations.
2. Diet and Fitness Survey
If you belong to the health industry, you can use a Diet and Fitness survey to understand your customers better. You will get a better idea of their problem and will be able to offer them customized solutions.
The survey can also be used by an organization to help its employees or by a university to help its students maintain a healthy lifestyle. Such surveys have found their use across industries and can help you offer better customer/employee satisfaction.
3. Patient Satisfaction Survey
It’s in the name! Whether you’re a big-shot hospital or a small clinic, you gotta know that you’re treating your patients well. And this does not confine to the medical procedures that you provide them. This could be about the facilities, medicines, appointment system and much more. A patient satisfaction survey will help you figure out the loopholes in your system.
4. Marketing Feedback Survey
Suppose you are an agency that provides various types of marketing services to your customers. Now, you can use a Marketing Feedback survey in order to understand their present situation such as – their generated traffic, the services they offer, their long-term goals, etc. Based on this information, you can customize the services that you offer them and help them better!
These are just some of the types of surveys that you can create with Outgrow. They are actually limitless and guess what, so are you!
So, let’s get started on how you can make these amazing surveys on your own in just a few easy steps!
How to Create a Survey on Outgrow
Here’s the step by step guide on how you can create a survey on Outgrow –
1) Log In:
Log in to your Outgrow account and select Form/Survey content type from your dashboard.
2) Choose Template:
This will take you to a page where you can either select a premade template or start from scratch. Well, you’ll also find multiple industry-standard survey examples created for you to get some inspiration and ideas.
3) Welcome Screen:
Now, you’re taken to the builder. Simply choose the appropriate heading, background picture, and button text for your welcome screen.
4) Drag and Drop Builder:
The builder is divided into three sections. Using the left panel, you can choose, delete and rearrange your questions. You can also navigate your welcome screen and results page using the left panel. The right panel helps you make edits to your questions and answers. You can choose the question titles and option types like single select, opinion scale, rating, alphanumeric input, date/time picker, etc. You can also choose how it’d be displayed; namely: text type, image type, icon type. The middle area is where you can see all your changes happening in real-time.
5) Ask Questions:
You can add any number of questions you want to ask your audience from the left bar.
Note: Try to keep your questions as accurately as possible. Short but useful surveys gain more attraction.
6) Add Lead Generation Form:
Lead generation is one of the most important steps for any business. Adding a lead generation form in your content will allow you to fetch details of your students, employees, or customers. You can place the form on: welcome screen, after questions, or the result page.
You can ask for the details of the users/leads like their name, email address, and phone number, and later use this info to nurture your leads. Moreover, this data can be used to retarget them with more personalized offers to increase conversion chances.
7) Say Thank You:
After the survey is complete, you have the option to edit your ‘thank you’ note.
8) Configure:
Under the configure tab, you can change the survey’s URL according to your wish or set up Google and Facebook pixel for tracking your survey. You can also choose to send an automated email to the users or to yourself when someone takes the survey. The Outgrow builder also gives you the option to configure your embeds, HTML, and 3rd party integrations in this section.
9) Analyze:
After publishing the survey, its detailed performance could be measured under the Analyze tab. You can view total visitors, traffic, and other user details under this section.
Isn’t this an all-in-one tool to build, configure, embed, integrate, track, and analyze your survey and the data collected?
How to Embed Your Survey on a Website?
Now that you have learned how to create a survey, you need to present it to your audience. The best way to do that is to embed your survey on your website. On your Outgrow builder, you will find the ‘configure’ tab. Under that, look for the ‘Embed on a Webpage’ option on the left panel. You will find multiple ways in which you can embed a survey on your website, some of which are –
Full Page Embed
In the case of Full-Page embed, your Outgrow content can be displayed on your website without having any distractions such as sidebars, etc. for the users. You can choose to use your header and footer and let the survey take the spotlight.
In-Page Embed
If you want other website elements to also be present on the page, then you can opt for In-Page embed. The content will be placed within a container, and when you will click on the start button, the survey will load within the part of the page where the embed code has been embedded.
Pop Up Embed
You can now configure an embed to show as a pop-up when a trigger button is clicked on. You can choose out of Classic, Drawer Left, or Drawer Right.
Apart from these, you can also use the timed & exit intent, chat messenger, greet bar, custom styled, and many more types of embeds.
Best Practices for Creating a Survey
- Options Type: Keep most of the option types as text input, rating, or opinion scale.
- Optional Questions: Keeping your questions skippable increases the chances of a user actually completing the survey. So, even if you don’t get answers to some desirable questions, you’ll at least have some information on the lead to nurture them.
- Add Social Share Widgets: Adding social share icons on your survey’s result page increases the chances of it going viral, more people taking the survey, and hence higher rates of conversions.
- Ask for a Recommendation: On the lead gen form, you can ask users to recommend the survey to someone who may benefit from it. This increases the chances of your interactive experience gaining more traction through word-of-mouth.
