Mastering Multiple CNAME Configuration in Outgrow: A Step-by-Step Guide
Table of Contents
Setting up multiple CNAME configurations in Outgrow allows you to enhance branding by hosting content on custom domains, improving both SEO by analyzing SEO trends and user trust. By configuring numerous CNAMEs, you can link different experiences to various domain names, maximizing versatility.
Key Benefits of Using Multiple CNAMEs
- Brand Uniformity: Each project can have its custom domain, ensuring a cohesive brand experience.
- SEO Boost: CNAMEs allow content hosted on branded URLs, improving search engine rankings.
- Domain Flexibility: Whether you have different subdomains for campaigns or landing pages, you can manage them all in Outgrow easily.
How to set up
- Log in to your Outgrow account. In the upper right corner, click your Account Name, then choose Billing & Settings.
- Select Custom Domain from the Brand option under Billing & Settings.
- Click on “Add a New Domain” and input your custom domain or subdomain. Once entered, click “Verify.” Make sure that the subdomain in the host field matches your DNS records. If you want this domain to serve as the primary one for your account, activate the “Set as Primary” option.
- To verify the domain you added to Outgrow, log in to your domain hosting provider and point the CNAME record to cname-ssl.outgrow.co. Follow these steps:
- Sign in to your domain hosting account.
- Go to the DNS management section.
- Locate the CNAME record settings, and open the relevant CNAME record for editing.
- In the “Points To” or “Destination/Address” field, enter cname-ssl.outgrow.co. Save your changes.
- After verifying your custom domain or subdomain, Outgrow will automatically validate the SSL certificate. You will see the status change to “Verified” once the SSL is active.
- Lastly, provide the Root URL and Error URLs for your account.
Important Note:
Let’s say you have configured a custom domain like mycalculators.mywebsite.com in your Outgrow account. The Outgrow experiences you create will automatically generate URLs such as mycalculators.mywebsite.com/ROIcalculator1. If a user visits this link and later decides to navigate back to your root domain by entering mycalculators.mywebsite.com, they will be directed to the Outgrow website by default. To ensure visitors see your landing page or product, you can specify your website URL (e.g., website.com) in the Root URL field. This way, when users visit mycalculators.mywebsite.com, they will land on your webpage instead.
Similarly, if you have a custom 404 error page on your website, you can enter that URL in the Error URL field when setting up the custom domain. This ensures that if a calculator or quiz link is broken, users will be shown their error page instead of the default Outgrow error page.
- You can repeat these steps to add additional CNAME configurations to your Outgrow account.
